Housing

Housing is a basic human right—a sentiment confirmed by the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights—and a part of the American Dream for many Latino and immigrant families.

Immigration Tenant Protections

All people have the right to a safe and stable home to build better futures for themselves and their families.

The Latino Policy Forum advocates for the protection of immigrant tenants in the United States. We believe that everyone, regardless of their immigration status, deserves a safe and stable home. Our organization works to promote policies that protect immigrant tenants and ensure that their rights are respected and upheld.

Affordable Housing & Ownership

When a family pays more than 30 percent of its monthly income towards housing, their housing expense is considered unaffordable.

At the Latino Policy Forum, we understand the importance of affordable housing and ownership for vulnerable families. That’s why we advocate for policies that promote affordable housing and homeownership for all, regardless of their income or background. By ensuring that families have access to safe, stable homes, we can help foster stronger communities and a brighter future for all.

Homelessness & Homeless Prevention

Nearly 11% of the homeless population in the City of Chicago is Latino - but anecdotes from the community and economic realities suggest the actual number is higher.

Our partners at the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless (CCH) in collaboration with Vanderbilt University, and the Heartland Alliance Social Impact Research Center have developed a model to better capture the homelessness count with the inclusion of doubled-up homelessness and guide effective policymaking.

Housing Advocacy Training

The Latino Policy Forum offers extensive training resources for individuals and communities who want to advocate for policies that protect tenants’ rights and ensure fair and equitable access to housing. Our training resources are designed to empower participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to make a difference in the housing issues facing latino communities.
